Poetry Scrapbox: Ext. Metaphor by ~KougaHugger:iconKougaHugger:

The Violin's Cries

The death is so surrounding,
Caving-in and crushing me,
And somewhere I hear music play,
As if in this place there was someone living,

Though no one but I will hear,
As the dead are surely deaf,
And the violin cries out in one final song,
Abruptly halted and to never shed another tear.

Author's Comments

This is the extended metaphor poem I conjured up. We had a separate project where I had come up with an eight word metaphor for a book we had read in class.

That book was Night by Ellie Weisel. I had created my metaphor from a scene in the book about one of Ellie's friends dying. It was a very emotional and tragic scene and the metaphor I gave it said: The violin cries to fall on deaf ears.

I took that metaphor and then turned it into this poem for our extended metaphors... because frankly, trying to do a poem with something like 'life is a box of cherries' or something just isn't as fun for whatever reason... plus, it's a little more difficult.
